Everyone knows that Julep is my Essie, but I tend to have a love-hate relationship with their Mystery Boxes (clarification NOT their subscription boxes; they mystery boxes are a horse of a different color). The value is undeniable considering that for just $24.99 you get over $100 worth of products, but a lot of the time it feels like Julep uses these mystery boxes to clean out their polishes from a previous season (for example, click here for the review I did on their “summer” Mystery Box. I don’t mind setting a polish aside and waiting a few months to use it, but sometimes it diminishes the fun (as was the case in the post I just linked).
But with that having been said, in that same box I was sent a cleansing oil that retails for $28 and is probably the most enjoyable product that I have ever used to cleanse my face. And I have sense gotten a lot of use out of those polishes this fall.
HOWEVER, the October Mystery Box was Bad-Ass!
My box had 4 polishes and each one was right on point for this season. I am so beyond excited for EVERY color that was in this box, but well talk more about that in a second. First, I want to talk about the nail mask.
Inside the Box
Upon opening the box, I was greeted with a bright pink pop of color. Typically sold for $30 per set of 5, each festive foil packet houses a nail mask. I am a skeptical person by nature, and while I haven’t yet used this product I was somehow really, really excited to see it! I have dry nails and didn’t realize that nail masks existed so I am very, very excited to check this out. You can find this product by clicking here.
The next thing that I saw was a long box that contained what Julep calls a Brilliance Glycolic Scrub, which essentially is a hand scrub. This is another product that I am excited to investigate because again, “hand scrub” isn’t a thought that has ever crossed my mind. I have used it twice since my box arrived, and NO KIDDING my hands feel so freaking soft! HOWEVER, and this is a big however, there is a label on this scrub that warns against sun exposure due to one of the ingredients. This concerns me because I feel that hands really need to be protected from the sun to fight signs of aging. While I love the smoothness, I think I will only be using it at night and I probably won’t re-buy it. This product retails for $23 and you can find it here.
The third product that I discovered was a hand cream, which I’m always happy to have. This is the Luxe Care Hand Creme that retails for $20 and comes in the tub. If I had to find something to complain about, I would prefer that this product came in a tube for sanitary reasons, but I really appreciate the light non-perfumey scent, the creamy whipped-butter texture, and the fact that this soaks right in. This was a nice product, and I love it for night since the scent won’t overpower me. You can find out more about this creme here.
So far we are at $73 worth of products (plus the 4 polishes retail for $56 total) so I was really surprised when I unrolled the cute little pink paper bag in my box and discovered a $22 Blank Canvas Mattifying Eye Primer!
I use eye primer every day to get the most out of my shadows in terms of color and longevity so I am always happy to get a new one. I LOVE that this primer has a yellow base and evens out any discoloration on my lid. I also really appreciate that there is no glitter in this because when I use a matte product, I want a matte product. I will admit that I would like this product better if it came in a tube and didn’t have a doe foot applicator (going back to sanitation), but the base is creamy and a great match for my fair skin-tone, so I’m a happy camper with this. You can find out more about this product here.
Ok, so we made it through the good stuff. Now lets check out the REALLY good stuff 🙂 The polish!
Wow. The total retail value of this box is $149. Not only is that a steal for $24.99, but I actually only paid $19.99 because I found a $5 off coupon on retailmenot!
This was by far the best Julep Mystery box that I have ever purchased and I cannot wait for the next one. It’s not out yet, but in the mean time, if you are interested in trying out Julep for yourself you can get a FREE 4 piece Julep set that retails for $58 by using my referral link here and using the code FREETREATS at checkout.
