Admittedly, I’ve been rather obsessed with watching “pan that palette” videos on YouTube and for a minute there I almost bought into the hype.
“It’s a great way to clear out your collection,” they would say.
“Why waste your makeup when you can use what you have,” they would say.
“You’ll feel so accomplished,” they would say.
But today, February the 11th 2015 I, Kaily Baute the fingers behind Someday Sunny call BULL SHIT. And here are 5 reasons why
1. Why the eff would I want to clear out my collection?!
When have you ever seen a collector toss out their shit so they can collect more shit? THEY DON’T! They KEEP their shit… and then just collect MORE shit. Duh. It’s called “collection,” for a reason.
2. What the eff do you mean I’m “wasting my makeup” if I’m not panning?!
This claim boggles my mind. It’s not like it just sits there… if I don’t use the palette I’m panning, I’ll be using one of the other 20 million I own. Either way, SOMETHING is getting used.
3. I’ll feel accomplished using a product up, you say?!
Well, this is somewhat true… I do enjoy emptying a product as evidenced by this empties post here, here and here… But something about using only one product forever and ever until death do us part just seems so oppressive to me.
4. I’ll enjoy the product more, you say?!
Please. Break it down for me. I’m not understanding how limiting myself access to one palette with like 3 decent looks in it is going to help me “enjoy” my makeup more.
I’ll tell you what I enjoy. Getting a matte look from my Tartelette palette whenever the eff I feel like it. Or getting a sexy purple date night look from my Nude Dude palette whenever the eff I feel like it. Or getting a fun blue and gold look from my Maya Mia palette whenever the eff I feel like it. So there. Suck on that lemon.
5. And what is this bullshit about saving money because I’m using up my stash?!
Let’s just clarify. If I wanted to save money, I’d stop wearing makeup. And furthermore, I can just as well use something else in my collection and “save money” that way too.
So hopefully you can tell by reading this that I don’t take panning projects too seriously 🙂 But that doesn’t change the fact that I still love watching other people challenge themselves and rise to the occasion. If you are competitive, or if you feel the need to use up products that you are iffy on but feel guilty tossing, I could totally see how participating in these challenges might be fun.
What do you think about panning projects? Do you feel more motivated, or more oppressed by these?
