Hello my loves! Since my review of the brand spankin’ new Too Faced Natural Matte palette [here], several of you have asked me which I recommend: the Natural Matte or the Tartelette!?
Obviously I’ve been raving about both, but to be honest, you probably only need one or the other. So, if you are debating between the two, this is for you 🙂
Best Color Selection:
As you can tell, there are many “dupeable” shades between the two palettes.
- Supermom and Heaven (highlight shades)
- Best Friend and Risque (mauvey-grapey purple)
- Force of Nature and Honey Butter (warm toned peach)
- Multitasker and Sexspresso (deep brown)
At the end of the day, though, both can easily give you a complete look regardless of if you want something light for the daytime or smokey for night time. It’s a tie.
Balance of cool and warm tones
Tie. Both palettes are mostly warm with a nice variety of neutral purples for you cool toned lovers out there.
Swatches don’t lie: the Tartelette wins again! Or do they? To be fair, swatches are swatches. When you actually use a brush to apply these shadows to your eyeball area (either one) you’re going to be working with something that is pigmented and high quality. So the reality is, it’s a tie.
This may come as a shocker, but I pick the Natural Matte. Not much to say here other then that they both blend nicely, it’s just so effortless to blend the shadow in the Natural Matte palette and the Tartelette requires just a little bit of extra work.
Both palettes are impressively long-wearing, but the Natural Matte sticks like glue ALL DAY. My shadow (with primer of course) literally looks the same from the time I apply it at 7am until the time I get home at 7pm.
Value wise, the Natural Matte palette is cheaper, but not only because it retails for $36 vs. the Tartelettes $44… for the amount of eye-shadow you are getting, you are actually paying less per oz.
The main thing that you want to consider (because both of these palettes are such great quality and in the same general ball park price wise) would be if you favor warm or cool tones. If you don’t like cool tones and purples, you may not want to bother with either palette cause both have both. On the other hand, if you want something that is otherwise more neutral, go for the Tartelette, or if you want something with warm-warmes (like that gorgeous burnt orange, then go for the Natural Matte.
Still can’t decide and just wanna know which one I prefer? Natural Matte. If it helps, I have green eyes, cool undertones and fair skin. And while we’re on the topic, I actually prefer the Tartelette in Bloom to the original Tartelette as well.
