You requested it, and here it is! A side-by-side showdown of two of the BEST all matte palettes two hit shelves possibly, ever? I’m just too excited I can hardly stand it. Let me just preface this by saying that you would not be a fool to buy both if it’s within your budget because they are each unique enough to stand on their own.
But I digress.
First! We swatch!
Best Color Selection:
Tie. Put your mother-effing hands down. No contest.
The Tartelette has a beautiful purple assortment that the Shade+Light meets head-on with a perfectly match quad of cool black/brown/white-ish goodness; but otherwise, both palettes lean warm, and both are quite neutral.
Balance of cool and warm tones:
Again, it’s a tie. Both palettes consist of 12 shadows a peace, with 4 of those 12 leaning cool and the other 8 leaning warm.
Swatches don’t lie, the Tartelette takes the cake. I mean, just look at that black!?
As well as the Tartelette swatches, that’s how well the Shade+Light blends, so I’m going to have to go with the Shade+Light, EASY.
Both palettes are impressively long-wearing but the Shade+Light shadows are like God… freaking eternal.
Overall Quality of the Product:
I can’t choose. Both palettes are great quality and well worth the price.
As far as the amount of shadow you get in each palette, The Tartelette ($44) has just a bit more at 0.636 oz as opposed to .6 oz in the Shade+Light ($46); but personally I don’t think that is enough to justify one over the other…
In terms of quality I think both palettes are very evenly matched… so not helpful, I know! I will say this though… for me, the Tartelette is more of a daytime palette and the Shade+Light is more of a nighttime palette; I love them both dearly, but because I really enjoy bolder looks during the daytime (ugh, it hurts to say this!)… I think I might (oh the pain!)… actually love (ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh)… the Shade+Light more!
There. I said it and it actually feels good!
