I hate spending money on lipstick. For one, I hardly wear it. And for two, when I do, I rarely delve outside of my MLBB comfort zone. So as I trotted down the makeup isle of my local Walgreens looking for the sweet tea my husband asked me to run in for (I’m such a selfless wife) and I stumbled upon Wet n Wild’s 99¢ lipstick display (that’s where they keep the sweet tea, right!?) I just had to grab one. Ok, twist my arm, four. I had to buy four.
Look at that pigment! I’m just sayin’! Retro Pink for sure is a lot more purple on the lips than it is pink, but I did have fun wearing it! It’s a nice satin finish too which is my absolute favorite!
This shade was a bit more pink in person than the last, but I loved how creamy both felt. I wouldn’t call this shade a matte, but without a hint of shimmer it actually reminds me a lot of the NYX Butter Lipsticks.
Now, Sunset Peach… I’m not normally a fan of frosty finishes (totally think they should die with the 80’s), but this peachy color is so pretty! This is for sure my favorite color of the four and I’m seriously thinking about wearing it in public! I love that this lipstick doesn’t feel gritty either even in spite of its texture.
Last but not least, my husband caught me off guard a bit for this photo, haha, can you tell!? So this shade is also a bit similar to the peachy shade above but just a bit more redish-brown. Not for me, but if you have darker skin this may be a nice nude! Again, no gritty feeling even with the frosty finish.
If you tried any of these 99¢ lipsticks before 2014 then you probably remember that they smelt terrible. I can’t describe it, but it wasn’t pleasant. The good news is, the stinky smell died with the silver packaging! That’s right, ladies! We have a new formula 🙂 They still have a slight cheapy-plasticky taste but what do you expect for $1?
I’m also not a fan of the packaging. The clear caps have a wavy design that makes putting them away a little tricky (like… I didn’t bargain for a damn puzzle people). But I love how the lipstick “snaps” in place when you wind it down keeping it safe and secure (none of that loose lipstick getting smushed in the cap). Again, for a $1, there isn’t a whole lot you can b*tch about.
Finally, they are very creamy and silky smooth, and they last nicely for a good 2-3 hours before you wll need to reapply. They will transfer if you’re kissin’ on someone or sippin’ on something, but because the lipsticks tend to stain your lips you don’t have to worry too much about all your color wiping off. Also, I did not notice any running or bleeding which is great for people like me that are too lazy for lip liner.
They don’t suck! I wouldn’t run out and buy the whole collection, especially if the “taste” of lipstick on your lips is something you are particular about. But if you’re dead-ass broke, or if you are in a pinch, or if you just want to see what the big fuss is about purple lipstick without slapping down $30 in Sephora, they’re totally worth a try.
Please let me know if you have any affordable lip product suggestions and/or requests. There are several brands out there that I’ve been wanting to try products from like Hard Candy and ELF. I actually picked up some of the Jordana balm stains last month and have been loving them!
