I love reading. As a child, my mom would bribe my little sister and myself with quarters to get us to read, but while my sister Kaitlyn collected on that bribe and pinched every penny, I was far too busy getting lost in a Nancy Drew mystery or a Goosebumps thriller to even care.
To this day, I still won’t be caught dead without a paperback in my purse, but recently I’ve really been enjoying audio books as well. Basically, I’m able to download books to my phone and listen to them while I’m doing things like driving home from work, cooking, or cleaning bathrooms (yuck). So I’m able to get through double my reading list!
I’ve been subscribed to Audible since last winter and so far I’ve enjoyed the service. It’s only $14.95 a month and they have a great selection of books; Plus they have the best return policy I’ve ever seen! But, $14.95 (in my opinion) is a lot of money to pay considering it buys you only 1 book credit.
Because I’m cheap as hell, I much prefer Overdrive. You can download their app for free and then link up your library card to listen to and/or read any books they have in your public library! The cons of course are that just like a brick and mortar library, only one book can be rented at a time… so if you are into series books like I am, having to wait on a book that’s already been rented by someone else can be torturous. Plus they don’t have as good of a selection as Audible, but if budget is your priority, it’s a really great app!
But regardless of whether you read from a paperback or kindle, or listen from your smart phone, one thing is for sure… the lazy days of summer rapidly approaching, so what better time is there than now to share with you my summer reading list!
