Just when we think Urban Decay might finally be fresh out of “Naked” ideas, the 4th generation is born! Meet, the Naked Smoky: A delicious blend of sultry and smokey shadows featuring three exclusives from past palettes and nine never before seen shades! But is this palette a smokey eyeshadow lover’s dream, or is it de ja vous?
Did Urban Decay just pull one over on their loyal fans by literally recycling an old launch and just slapping the word “Naked” across it!? Or is this NEW Naked Smoky truly a whole new breed of the neutral eye look?
Before you whip out your torches and pitchforks and go all medieval on Urban Decay’s ass, I encourage you to check out the swatch comparisons and decide for yourself.
Once swatched side by side, I think it’s pretty obvious that these two smoky-eye palettes are nothing alike. The late Smoked clearly contains a more intense color selection, and I personally find that the shadows are more pigmented.
For the sake of possible “dupe” comparisons, I’ve swatched side by side some of the most “similar” looking shades from each palette:
Please keep in mind that this is not a review of the Naked Smokey (although if you are looking for an honest one, I’d suggest Tarababyz YouTube review and demo). I wanted to put this post together mainly for those of you who may already own the Smoked palette and are wondering if it is worth owning the Naked Smoky as well. I would be happy to add comparisons in terms of value and overall quality for both of these palettes if you would like, just leave a comment bellow.
Otherwise, I can confidently say that these two palettes are totally different. The Naked Smokey does not have the same rich jewel tones that are featured in the Smoked, nor are the shadows as pigmented. As a result, you tend to get a more daytime appropriate look from the Naked Smokey (as opposed to something more rich and dramatic from the Smoked).
So if you are a fan of smokey eyeshadow looks, but want something that is more wearable during the daytime than the Smoked palette, I say go for it! But if you are a huge fan of the Smoked palette for it’s bold colors and dramatic flair, you may want to pass on the Naked Smokey.
That’s it for today, friends. Thanks so much for hanging out! If you liked this post, please subscribe! Palettes are one of my favorite things to review and/or compare on Hello Kaily, and I have a plethora of beauty reviews here.
