Last Fall (2014) when I tweeted theBalm Cosmetics suggesting a travel palette, I did not expect them to tweet me back (but they did) and I certainly didn’t expect to hear that they were already working on one (but they were)! And just a few short months later theBalm Voyage 2 was born.
Unfortuantely, the releases of Tarte’s Tartelette, Too Faced’s Natural Matte, Kat Von D’s Shade+Light Eye Contour, and then Urban Decay’s Naked 4 Smoky palettes kind of pushed theBalm Voyage 2 to the backburner but I finally got it, it’s here, I’m all swatched up and ready to share!
WHAT YOU GET:
- 9 eyeshadows (predominately warm): 2 matte, 4 satin, 2 shimmer & 2 glitter for a total of 0.279 oz
- 1 super silky golden highlight at 0.88 oz
- 1 very warm, very dark (so dark I’m probably going to use it as an eyeshadow) bronzer at 0.88 oz
- 2 super creamy, pigment rich blushes at 0.88 oz each
- 2 lip and cheek stains (I haven’t used a lipstick that requires me to put my finger in it since Polly Pockets were cool) at 0.1 total oz (or 0.05 oz each)
- a mirror
- slim packaging (if you have theBalm Jovi, it’s the exact same size & if you have theBalm Voyage it’s not as tall or as wide but just as thin)
WELCOME – Matte skin-toned shade that does not show up on my fair skintone but that I find perfect for blending and clean up!
BIENVENUE – This satin color is so pretty in person! It’s a very pretty gold that almost looks pink in certain lights and at certain angles. Strange, but soft and beautiful for the lid!
BIENVENIDO – This is a very dramatic antique-gold type shimmer that I feel would be ideal for a dramatic smokey eye or Holiday party.
BENVENUTO – Very soft satin shade that would be pretty on the lid and isn’t too shimmery to look nice as a transitional shade as well.
TERVETULOA – If the Kylie Jenner lip were an eyeshadow, I imagine it would look a lot like this brownish-pinky-90s-ish matte shade. It’s an odd choice for a transitional shade but somehow gorgeous!
WELKOM – This satin forest green is probably the standout of the palette (for me)… well, at least it was until I swatched it. This shade has the worst pigmentation in the palette and I had to swatch it 6 times to build it up to what you see in the picture. It is very pretty though.
WILKOMMEN – Classic bronzey satin and probably the most pigmented shade in the palette.
VALKOMMEN – I own 5 other palettes from theBalm (can you tell I’m addicted??) and I’ve got to say that the shades with glitter in them never get touched by me, so I’m not excited about this or the next shade. They swatch poorly but they are always really pigmented when I use them… I just hate glitter fallout! That having been said, this is a brownish-redish shade with gold glitter.
FAILTE – Read “Valkommen” for thoughts. Black shade with gold glitter.
When it comes to a palette marketed for travel, this is a vast improvement from the orginial Balm Voyage which only came with 16 freaking HUGE shadows and three cream products. I would have expected that palette to look more like theBalm Jovi which not only is a smaller, more travel friendly palette but actually comes with a highlight and a blush (and two cream products)! theBalm Jovi is also one of my top palettes of all time, so you don’t even know how excited I am to have a highlight, bronzer and two blushes in theBalm Voyage 2!
Sure, the darkness of the bronzer is a fail for us fair skinned gals, but I think I speak for all of us when I say, “we’re used to it.” The good news is, it will make an awesome transition shade!
However, I’ve got to admit that the color range of the eyeshadows does confuse me… I mean, is it just me or does this palette scream “Holiday Party”!? I’d get it if this were released during the Winter but this was a Spring release?
So the marketing is obviously a bit sketchy but when all is said and done, who care!? It’s still a gorgeous palette, with gorgeous shades and everything that you need to complete at least 3-4 noticeably different looks.
