For as long as I can remember, I’ve been a perfume junkie. As a child I still remember playing with my moms body sprays and rearranging them in her bathroom in the order of my most loved to least favorite. I was always especially excited when my mom, who worked in a department store at the time, was able to score me a tube or two of those little deluxe spray samples (you know, the ones that everyone complains about getting in their Birchbox); but it wasn’t until I reached middle school and my parents gifted me a $20 Walmart boxed set of perfumes for Christmas that the obsession truly began.
Two of my favorites in that box were Davidoff’s “Cool Water” and Elizabeth Taylor’s White Diamonds. Basically, I smelt like a heavy-handed old lady all throughout middle-school.
Thankfully, my taste in fragrance has since developed but I’m still a big fan of trying new things! So, needless to say, when a giant spray tube (10 ml) of Harvey Prince perfume showed up in my August Vegan Cuts box, you better believe I was excited!
I already knew I loved the scent because (surprise, surprise), I’d actually gotten a sample of their “Hello” handcream in a Birchbox a few years ago. This fragrance is a beautiful mix of sweet and tangy lemon, feminine florals and rich vanilla that essentially smell like sunshine in a bottle. I’m not exaggerating about the scent either; when I had the lotion I used to open the bottle up just to sniff it…
Unfortunately, I’m not going to be able to wear this perfume because I’ve become very sensitive to fragrances ever since my pregnancy. Not only can I literally taste perfume in the air (even if I’m not the one wearing it), the smell alone causes some hardcore migraines that are just not worth the obsession.
As a matter of fact, I’d been getting them for about a week recently before I finally realized where they were coming from! A quick cleaning of my purse the other day revealed that I had forgotten this perfume tube in my purse where it had been slowly but surely leaking. I suppose I hadn’t noticed it before because this fragrance has such a pleasant and welcoming scent that I just thought nothing of it, but looking back, that’s probably what’s been causing my migraines.
Which brings me to my next few points:
- The scent of this perfume is much stronger than the scent of the lotion (and the lotion is pretty strong), so just keep that in mind.
- The packaging may seem ideal for travel, but it’s definitely not. I’ve worn this perfume once since I got it and just look at how much has been leaking out into my purse!
According to the Harvey Prince website, the notes are: Meyer Lemon, White Grapefruit, Satsuma Mandarin, Summer Forsythia, Pink Plumeria, Wild Verbena, Tahitian Vanilla and Sensual Musk. And the scent is 100% indicative of all of these… it’s warm and sexy, but not too dominant or overpowering. It’s also girly, but not too young and immature.
