There used to be a time in my life (early college years) where the sight of pan in a product would send me into panic mode. It’s not that I didn’t like using products up (out with the old and in with the new, we all say), I just didn’t like paying to replace the darn things!
But now that I’m “grown up” and the majority of my money isn’t going to things like textbooks, Starbucks and beer (mostly Starbucks and beer), I can actually afford to keep a little variety in my makeup collection. And because it’s so much more difficult to hit pan on a blush when you have 10 instead of 1, panning a product is actually quite fun these days. So I thought it might be fun to join in on “Project Pan” and see what I can use up by the end of 2016!
Urban Decay Ammo Palette – I reviewed this palette last April and you can tell by looking at it now that the poor thing has had maybe enough uses to count on both of my hands. The shades are so beautiful and quite pigmented I just hardly ever pick up a palette that I can’t get a complete look out of (by complete look I mean mostly matte). But all of that is going to change! Cause I plan to use this sucker up by the end of 2016.
Lorac Matte Pro – I wasn’t planning on panning a second palette but as I stated earlier, I need mattes. And because this palette has hardly any product in it (4 grams to the Ammo Palettes 8 grams), I figured panning this one might be a bit more realistic (especially since I’m starting this challenge 5 months late).
Little known fact about Kaily: I used to smoke. It’s a terrible habit and I’m so glad I quit. But before I did, I had a major fragrance addiction (for obvious reasons). I’d smoke about a pack a day and drown myself in perfume to mask the scent.
It’s been over 3 years since I quit and now I find myself never using my perfumes. So in an effort to keep them from going bad, I plan to start panning 2 of the oldest in my collection (Ralph Lauren “Romance” and Gucci “Guilty”) and then work my way through the rest.
The Nail Polish
I’m not really a huge nail-polish user and/or hoarder but I do love the look of a fresh (
but cheap at home) mani/pedi. There’s just one problem though. The darn things never die! Before I can ever use any of them up they’re super separated and/or gunkie and I just hate that I never buy any new shades because I feel so guilty over not using up the ones that I have.
So this year I hope to pan 3! These are all from Julep and in no particular order:
- Helen – Can’t go wrong with a good neutral (and it’s already 2/3 gone)
- Saaya – Also has a good dint in it (about 1/4 gone) and a fun orange/peach color as we get closer to Summer
- Sylvia – Who doesn’t love purple? And I figured this would be a great “dark” color for the Fall and Winter. It’s practically full so we’ll see what happens!
I recently threw away well over 20 lipsticks, and if I learned nothing else from the experience (like the fact that it was a huge waste of money), it was this:
- I’m not really a lipstick person
- I like my neutral-pinks
- Who really needs 40 lipstick anyway!?
And so in an effort to dwindle down my collection a bit (but still give me the freedom to use those boring shades I love) I figured we’d pan 6 deluxe samples that I’ve been hoarding since Christmas 2014!
- Buxom Hooligan – red
- Buxom Provocateur – wine
- Buxom Mistress – cool pink (my favorite out of those 3)
- Smashbox Fig – wine
- Smashbox Legendary – red
- Smashbox Primrose – neutral pink (my favorite out of those 3)
Don’t the three sets basically look the same!? I mean, really. How many of the same lipstick color does one girl need!?
The Lonely Blush
And then because it takes like a million years to finish a blush, I figured we’d just polish off “Sweet Retreat” from ELF, especially since I’ve already hit a boatload of pan in it. The color fades midway through the day too so applying it twice will help to use it up faster!
The Infinite Amount of Body Butter
I’m not even going to lie. I have a problem. I find these at Marshall’s and TJ Maxx all the time for $5.99 each (they retail for $20) so they come home with me and just sit under my bathroom sink.
No more! They’ve got go.
So what do you think!? Are my goals realistic!? I know they’re certainly ironic… espeically if you were around for this… but do you project pan!?
