Usually I have Pinterest to blame for my DIY extravaganzas, but I was actually browsing Etsy recently for unique bridal shower favors when I came across several super cute sets of creaseless hair ties. I’d seen generic versions of these before in stores like Walmart and Target for around $5+ and even though the ones on Etsy were more affordable (and much more fabulous) at $3-$4 per set, they were still a bit out of my budget.
You’ll want to start with some elastic ribbon. I found these at Walmart in the ribbon section for just $1 each.
Next, you’ll want to cut your ribbons into 9″ strips.
FUN FACT: if you pick up your elastic from Walmart like I did, each spool should contain 36″ of ribbon. And since 36″ comes out to four 9″ strips, this means you don’t even need to measure! Just cut them into four even strips.
Next, you’ll simply fold each 9″ strip in half and tie a knot on the end leaving about half an inch of fabric on the end.
And there you have it. A super cute, super easy, super unique and super customizable elastic hair tie! Best yet, since each spool is just a $1 and yields 4 ties, you’re only paying 25¢ per tie!
Depending on the colors and designs of ribbon you choose to use too these can make great gifts or favors for several occasions: birthday parties, baby showers and (in my case) bridal showers just to name a few.
But you can’t forget about presentation!
I used a lace-style border punch to give Kraft colored cardstock a little shabby-chic character. If you don’t have a border punch, you can simply cut your cardstock into 3″ strips and decorate with stamps, stickers, ribbon or just text.
