But if there is one thing I’ve learned with theBalm it’s that their palettes can sometimes be hit or miss, and that if you wait long enough they will always have a sale (okay, so maybe that is two things).
So I waited and I waited and I waited until Cyber Monday hit. 50% off for a palette!? Yes, please!
Ultimately I’m glad that I did because I’d love to see more of this shimmer formula from theBalm, but something is bothering me and I really need to get it off my chest:
I don’t understand why they aren’t using the same matte formula as the Matte Trimony! The shadows on the MT were so smooth and creamy and they blended out so beautifully… The ones in the Balm Appetit aren’t bad, but they are much drier and I feel like I have to do more digging to get the pigmentation I’m used to. Why, Balm!? WHY!?
At first glance this palette is a bit confusing. The orange, while beautiful, feels random. And the entire bottom row of satins seem a bit off too. But I’ve been surprisingly satisfied with the color combinations and how this palette pushes me a bit out of my comfort zone to do something a little unexpected!
Matte│Top Row: Cream is great for setting primer and highlighting, and I love using either the pink or the brown in the crease (even though I do have to build them more than normal).
Shimmer│Middle Row: I’ve never really been impressed with theBalm when it comes to shimmers… they tend to lose all their shine quickly and look satin/matte within 30 minutes or so of application. These shimmers, though!? The sparkle will last ALL day and while the pigmentation isn’t the best ever, it’s still quite good. I love them!
Satin│Bottom Row: I really wish these were all matte. I like the tan-ish color for pairing with the orange on the lid, but the pigmentation of the black and grey is quite sad. If you pair them with ANY of the pinks they end up looking purple. I’m just not impressed.
Good to Know
- Very little fall out
- Blend well
- Last well throughout the day
- $39.95 at theBalm or Kohl’s
- I advised shopping through Kohl’s because they are on Ebates (theBlam is not) and you can often get $10 in store credit for every $50 you spend at Kohl’s!
If theBalm will stick with their Matte Trimony formula for Mattes and whatever the heck the magic is they used for these shimmers they will seriously be a force to be reckoned with.
But until then, I don’t think this palette is worth $39.95. The mattes are good, but I know they can do better, and the satins are drugstore quality. The shimmers are truly the saving grace of this palette but I’m not about to slap my stamp of approval on a $40 palette for 3 eyeshadows.
So is it worth it for half off? IDK, what do you think?
