As I stated in a recent post, 2016 was a really good year for me in terms of family life. But it was also a really great year for beauty!
I used the Tartelette in Bloom for about 3 or 4 months solid at the start of the year (it’s just perfect for everyday) and the Modern Renaissance from Anastasia Beverly Hills is truly the best quality eyeshadow I think I have ever used.
More Tarte products that I loved this year are their Amazonian Butter lipsticks. Particularly the Angelic Nude and Plummy Rose shades. They’re lightwight, moisturizing and minty feeling/tasting. What’s more to love? And Anastasia is also appearing for the second time on my list this year with their Brow Definer (I use the shade Taupe). It makes filling in my brows each morning a quick, easy and natural process and I just love it.
This $3 makeup remover pen from ELF is also a true gem. It makes winged liner quite the breeze.
And then two other “boring” products that I absolutely adore are the Milani Eye Primer and the Orly Bonder. Both of these products are just perfect for making my eyeshadow (or nail polish, respectively) last longer. I especially love the Milani primer though because unlike higher priced versions that I’ve tried in the past it’s not dry and chunky looking on my lid, but it’s also not super oily either! It’s just perfect.
but wait… there’s more!
2016 was also the year of skincare for me. I realized about half way through the year that my 20s are nearly over and I really need to get it together! So while I discovered several products and brands that I really enjoyed and hope to try more from in 2017 (I’m looking at you, Kate Somerville and Paula’s Choice), 2016 had their own stand outs!
I would recommend just about anything from Acure, for example, but some of my favorites are as follows:
I also bought (and re-bought) my first “big girl” (what I call just about anything that costs more than $20) cleanser this year. If you want something more natural but that does a pretty decent job of removing makeup without stripping your skin, try the Michael Todd Honey & Oat Cleanser!
cream of the crop…
I have truly saved the best for last, though… I can’t even begin to tell you how much I love Laura Geller’s Baked Highlight in Golden Rose. The funny thing is, I’m not really into highlighters but that’s why I think I love it so much! It’s a touch pink and touch gold (in a world where most highlighters are one or the other) so it matches my neutral/fair skintone perfectly.
