Traditionally I love Distopia and Science Fiction, but I feel like we all have things on our reading lists that we’re embarrassed to own up to. For me it’s my addiction to romance novels (yup, even the ones with Highlanders) and anything “girly.”
I think that is why Summer is one of my favorite seasons for books; it’s the one time of the year that I feel it’s socially acceptable to tackle a few guilty-pleasures! And while not all of the books on my list will fall into that category, I thought it would be fun to share.
1. Paper Towns by John Green
This one falls into the “girly” category for me and I want to read it because I loved the movie “The Fault in Our Stars”.
2. The Help by Kathryn Stockett
Technically this is a historical fiction but I would consider it a modern classic that should be on all high school reading lists. I’m inspired to read it also because the move was amazing.
3. Since You’ve Been Gone by Morgan Matson
This is another one for the “girly” category. I’m not sure what the premise of this book is but it seems to be a highly recommended Young Adult/Contemporary/Romance.
4. 13 Reasons Why by Jay Asher
This is a Young Adult/Contemporary novel that focuses on suicide and how easy it is to unwittingly contribute to the struggles that our peers face on a daily basis. I don’t know much more about it than that, but I’m inspired to read it because of it’s recent popularity.
5. Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins
Soooo girly. Per the theme of running into books blindly, I don’t know what this is about. But I’m inspired to read it because of it’s popularity.
6. You are a Badass by Jen Sincero
I try to force myself to read at least one self-help book a year. And I do feel like a badass, so this one is it.
Girly, girly, and girly. I’m inspired to read these because I’m tired of seeing the P.S. I Still Love You cover everywhere and wondering what it’s about.
Imaginary cookie to anyone who noticed that I forgot to include a picture of book #9! To everyone else, what’s on your reading list for the Summer?
